hile is divided in 12 regions, plus the Metropolitan. The most arid area is located in the north of the country and it corresponds to the well-known regions of Tarapacá, Antofagasta and Atacama, from north to south.
In Chile, the Atacama Desert extends among the parallel 18° north and 27° south. It varies in toughness toward the south as well as it ascends toward the Los Andes mountain range, were we found the estepárico climate of the highland and the glaciers of their enormous volcanos, some of which surpass the 6.000 meters of altitude.
This extraordinary aridity, interesting geomorphology, singular
manifestations of vegetable and animal life, the old cultures that here developed and that they still conserve some of their ancestral traditions, make the north of Chile an attractive destination with impressive landscapes and unforgettable adventures.
