Valparaíso and around

The colourful port

Valparaíso is the second largest city in Chile, after Santiago. It is located at the central coastline, only 110 kilometers from the capital city. The port of Valparaíso was the first built in Chile and turned into one of the main shipping points in South America, mainly receiving European population in the XIX Century. Its unusual architecture is its main asset. The inhabitants have built according to ground possibilities, in 42 hills looking directly to the sea, which are now full of houses hanging from the hills full of colours and with all kinds of materials. It is hard not to get lost in this labyrinth of graffiti, crossed by elevators going up and down and being trapped by the amazing views from the bay at one of the many viewpoints. Each corner and each alley is a surprise!
